Market Researcher

Market Researcher

Market Researchers investigate activity within a particular market to allow a business to prepare for the launch of a new offer or to review the performance of an existing product.

A market researcher will use a range of data collection methods including qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect feedback. This often includes conducting interviews either in person or by phone as well as collating feedback collected through online feedback forms. They may run focus groups and conduct more in-depth interviews as well as co-ordinating longer term research projects depending on the sector or product they’re working with.

In addition to collating this information market researchers are also responsible for analysing the information they collect to evaluate a products performance or the opportunities within the market for a new launch.

Key skills

Market Researchers need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders as at all levels both inside and outside of their employer. A good understanding of research methods is a key requirement for most roles and being able to balance a varied workload while managing deadlines is crucial.

The technical knowledge needed for a Market Researcher position will depend on the type of employer but a good level of general IT and presentation skills combined with an understanding of data analysis tools would be a great start.
